The Molenes; Camp Street in Vintage Guitar Magazine

7/27/2010

Coastal New Hampshire’s rising stars of salty alt-country twang the Molenes are in for round two of mixing. Singer/Guitarist Dave Hunter, Paul Q. K. and Adam Taylor are polishing up a batch of tunes for the Molene’s third full length album. According to www.themolenes.com this album is due out in Autumn ‘10.

Dave Hunter also happens to write for Vintage Guitar Magazine. Checking in at 14 x 10.5 inches, VG may be one of the last full-size color print rags left in the world. (Trees may rejoice, but I really miss poring over mags like this.) The meeting of two such discerning tone-sters as Dave and Paul was splendidly serendipitous. Dave’s first introduction to Camp Street a few months ago yielded the following review of one of several rare amplifier’s in the Camp Street collection, a vintage Sonola 98-RT combo amp:

The Upper Crust Stand Corrected on the Subject of Standing Corrected

6/14/2010

The Upper Crust have requested that we make available to you the corrected version of their song, “I Stand Corrected.” Rather than risk the request for further corrections (to this post), we’ll let a representative for the Crust step in and offer an explanation for this redux:

“Aficionados of the music of the Upper Crust will be familiar with their ethereal release Revenge For Imagined Slights, recorded a year ago at Camp Street Studios.

Those who have listened to it closely may also have noticed it’s single small but significant flaw, namely, that the song “I Stand Corrected” had four verses where there ought to have been but three.

This error can be ascribed to the song having been recorded the morning after it was written. My Lords have since had a chance to habituate themselves to the composition and the error has been duly rectified.

Here, then, is the corrected version of ‘I Stand Corrected’, available for free download by clicking the link here: www.campstreetstudios.com/I_Stand_Corrected_(Corrected_Version).mp3

Yours Truly,
Bumbles
Secretary and Manservant to Their Lordships the Upper Crust”

Mellow Bravo Tracking; Buffalo Tom Mixing

6/8/2010

Hard charging local sextet, Mellow Bravo were in over the weekend with John Northrup and Alex Hartman to record 3 tracks that will appear on their debut full length due out this Fall. Catch the Bravo’s at the Rosebud in Davis Square with Cocked and Loaded on Friday, June 25th…should be quite a party. It always is with these guys/girl. The band claims it will be their last show until their CD release show in September. After completely blitzing the Boston club circuit since their inception one year ago these guys deserve a bit of a break from the live scene while they bunker down in the studio for the summer.

Buffalo Tom are in today working on a mix with Paul Kolderie and Adam Taylor….can’t wait for this album to drop!!!!! In the mean time, you can catch Buffalo Tom live at the Paradise, June 11th 2010….go to www.buffalotom.com for further details.

Treat Her Right

5/26/2010

After absolutely tearing up the Mark Sandman Memorial Concert last September (see below) and subsequent shows around town, Treat Her Right are in the studio working on a slew of new tracks. The 2010 version of the band includes founding members, Dave Champagne (guitar, vocals), Jim Fitting (harmonica, vocals) as well as Billy Beard (cocktail drums) and Steve Mayone on (’low guitar’). Paul Kolderie and Adam Taylor are on the job and the boys are ripping it up. Call it ‘cowpunk’, call in ‘punk blues’, call it what you will…these guys were doing it from the get go and after two decades of imitators, Treat Her Right are back to show ya’ll how its supposed be done.

Buffalo Tom; Upper Crust; Josh English and Other Happenings

5/11/2010

Busy, busy, busy…too busy to blog consistently. Here’s a quick blast on what’s been going on:

You loved them in the 90’s, you’ll love them in the…ummmmm….10’s? Teens? What are we calling this decade? Or is it in fact the last year of the ‘zeroes’? Regardless…Buffalo Tom were in to track two more songs for their long awaited full length. You’ll dig ‘em.

The Upper Crust came in to bang out a fistful of big hits as well as some fazed cookies from a previous existence. Drummer, Jackie Kickassis drove a giant hole into the head of our biggest snare drum with the tree trunks he somehow plays with. We sent a lad from the scullery to fetch a new one, post haste and continued to rocque.

Adam Taylor finished up mixing the new Joshua English full length, “Lay Bare Your Bones.” Look for that to be available as a digital download right here at campstreetstudios.com sooner than later.

Local dynamos, the New Collisions are in the midst of tracking a baker’s half dozen pop gems. Its a Kolderie/Slade joint…reunited and it feels so good. Work resumes on that bad boy tomorrow. Also in the Boston pop section are This Blue Heaven, who should be wrapping up their ep next week.

Whew….take a breather. Ok…no time for love, Dr. Jones…back to tracks.

Cornershop’s “Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast” Released in U.S.: Camp Street Remix Of ‘Who Fingered Rock And Roll?’ Single Streaming Here

4/16/2010

Cornershop are gearing up for the US release of their much lauded full length, “Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast”. As of April 20th, 2010, you can now pick up “Judy…” at all the usual web spots–iTunes, Lala, Amazon– or hit up your hip local record shop to get a compact disc. The record was previously available solely through www.cornershop.com. The U.S. release is brought to you by www.redeyeusa.com in partnership with Cornershop’s own, Ample Play Records. Rumor has it that the band is making plans for a State-side tour sometime in the not so distant future…

To celebrate, Camp Street Studios and Cornershop bring you the “Cambridge, MA Mix” version of the single, “Who Fingered Rock and Roll?” Well respected man about town, Anthony Saffery manned the helm of the remix, re-tracked the guitars and generally “approached it from another angle.” Dirty Vegas’, Steve Smith added percussion and the new version was mixed here at Camp Street by Mr. Saffery and Adam Taylor. Without further adieu, please enjoy:
